As the name implies, a light electric vehicle (LEV) is a light, electrically powered vehicle to travel relatively short distances. LEVs are one of the largest and fastest growing electric vehicle markets. A Light Electric Vehicle LEV is a land vehicle propelled by an electric motor that uses an energy storage device such as a battery or fuel cell, has two or three wheels, and typically weighs less than 100kg. Most LEVs are and will remain ebikes. These are Power on Demand bikes controlled with a throttle.

In this way, IBERICA has been deeply involved in integrative projects of LEVs in urban mobility:
- Generation.mobi – The Generation.mobi is a research, development and validation project of a new generation dynamic mobility management system, based on the concept of a social network of interactive bicycles, and interoperable with the city’s ecosystem
- BE.Neutral – BE.neutral is an agenda drawn from cities that aims to accelerate the development and industrialization, by 2025, of various mobility products, connectivity devices, and a new generation of interoperable service platforms geared to promote carbon neutrality.
- AM2R – AM2R (mobilizing agenda in two wheels sector) aims to operationalize the intervention in priority areas in the value chain that will allow the transformation of the national production profile and the development of a new specialization profile in the sector to leverage its competitive position in the international market, focusing on independence from the Asian market, through the development and endogenization of advanced knowledge about new products, processes, and services, increasing and differentiating national productivity and enhancing the diffusion of technological knowledge based on sustainability and digitalization.
